Unemployment: Week 4 & 5

In Unemployment on August 15, 2011 at 8:37 am

What a wild ride this is.  One day I’ve lost all hope and the next, I’m the belle of the ball!  The past two weeks have been busy with activity and inactivity.  I’ve applied for about 8 jobs and suddenly, headhunters have discovered my resume.

I’ve had several phone interview and one in-person interview.  I’ve also decided that, since there seems to be very few full-time positions out there, I’ll contract for a while.  It pays better than unemployment and keeps my skills fresh.  I’ve always liked new challenges so I think this is a good decision for me.  Now all I have to do is find a job.

When you’re waiting for someone to make a decision, the time seems to drag on forever.  Waiting for a hiring decisions is the same.  I want them to call me now and either make me very happy or put me out of my misery.  In the mean time, I keep applying for jobs and hoping someone will discover that they can’t do without me.

All-in-all, I’m still having a nice time being home.  My latest project is cleaning out my clothing closet.  I like to do it every 6 months or so, donating usable items to charity.  This time, the charity gets 3 boxes… so far.

Tomorrow, we head off to Reno for a few days.  Norm is attending WorldCon, a really cool Science Fiction convention.  I’ll probably do a bit of shopping (mostly browsing), a lot of reading, possibly some site seeing.  Should be fun!
