In My Favorite Things, Random Thoughts on December 2, 2009 at 8:44 pm

As we near the end of the year, I am compelled by nature to create lists. In December, my list making expands from grocery lists to categorizing everything that happened over the year. As a necessity, I have to create a Christmas gift list identifying what I’m giving to friends and family. Then of course there’s the Holiday Card/Newsletter list. I haven’t really decided whether to once again to pour the events of the year into a double-sided, color printed paper, or just sign a nice card that says “Happy Holidays to you and yours.” However, for either one of these options, I have to round up the card list.

As the month goes on, I am also compelled to compile the “Favorite Books”, “Best Movies” of the year lists. Not sure why, but I’ve been creating these lists since I was a kid. Of course, I had much more time when I was younger to read and watch old movies. But the compulsion still hits me around December 15th.

Sometime after Christmas, when I have a bit of breathing room, I create my roadmap for the upcoming year. Most people call these “New Years Resolutions.” I call it my “Things I’d Like to Do But Probably Won’t Get Around To” list. Always at the top of this list is “Lose Weight.” I’m sure this year will be no exception. So if you happen to see various lists throughout the month of December, please indulge me. I’m just expunging the information from my brain so that there will be more room for next year’s lists.
